Welcome
Changing Behaviour is a project that aims to support change in energy use and energy services. We do so by applying social research on technological change to practical use. Our focus is on the interaction between energy experts and energy users: How can these different groups learn to understand each other better?

Changing Behaviour is an action research project. Researchers and practitioners work together to develop, test and refine tools for improved interaction that are sensitive to context, timing and the needs of different users and stakeholders.

Changing Behaviour is a European project that is funded by the EU 7th Framework Programme Energy theme (contract number: 213217). The project partners are from Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands and the UK.
Energy intermediaries - strategic or grassroots?
Monday, 30 March 2009 16:30
Changing our energy behaviour is closely connected to the sustainability of our cities. One aspect of this is that intermediary organisations working for more sustainable energy use often operate on a regional level. There, they can take a more strategic, or a more project-based approach to changing energy use patterns. Simon Robinson from Manchester Knowledge Capital recently discussed this dilemma in his talk addresed to the NATURE, SOCIAL COHESION AND THE CITY Conference organised by FP7 Social Polis. You can download his presentation Strategic vs. Grassroots: an environmentalist's dilemma.

Workshops all around Europe
Thursday, 12 February 2009 13:16
The CHANGING BEHAVIOUR workshop season is in full swing. Our first workshop was organized in Tallinn last November (Tallinn_workshop_report). The second workshop was held in Budapest on February 3rd in the international atmosphere of Central European University. A total of 39 invited participants from Hungary, Germany, Poland,  Romania, Russia and the Republic of Macedonia joined forces with the CHANGING BEHAVIOUR team to explore the conditions for reducing our demand for energy. In addition to inspiring groupwork sessions, participants enjoyed an interactive forum hosted by Professor Zoltán Illés. The workshop report will be available in early March.

Manchester will be the venue on March 5th, when participants from the UK and the Netherlands assemble at the Bridgewater Hall to explore conditions for successful energy conservation. The workshop is hosted by Manchester Knowledge Capital. The workshop registration is open until February 19. We look forward to an exciting event!

One more workshop is upcoming this spring in Athens, on June 16th. The workshop is hosted by CRES, the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources, Greece. A final workshop will be hosted in 2010 in Düsseldorf. You can keep track of our workshop activities and outputs on the workshop page.
