The aim of Energy Academy project is to recruit a force of 10-15 volunteers who are willing to be trained by the sustainable development charity, Action for Sustainable Living (AfSL), in engaging, enthusing and supporting local residents taking practical action on climate change. The volunteers will operate in the Greater Manchester borough of Trafford, and in doing so also refer people to the domestic energy efficiency services offered by the Greater Manchester ‘spoke’ of the national Energy Savings Trust Advice Centre (GM ESTAC) network.

The project Warm Zone is currently being implemented in Kirklees, a local authority district in the north-east of England. Warm Zone is large and ambitious in its approach and scope: providing free cavity and loft insulation for all houses in Kirklees. Residents are informed about options to lower energy consumption, renewable energy production, air and water conservation measures.

This programme evolved from the Manchester: Green Energy Revolution (M:GER) feasibility study which took place took place over 2004-2005.

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) Energy Efficiency Programme is an initiative that aims to improve energy efficiency in relation to already existing MPS buildings and practices. The programme has roots that can be traced to 1991, although its current initiatives in respect of its involvement in London’s Building Energy Efficiency Programme (BEEP) programme from 2008 are the primary focus here. The wider context for this is that the MPS is committed to reducing its CO2 emissions by 10 per cent by 2010 and 30 per cent by 2025.

The CIS Solar Tower project is a renewable energy initiative iin Manchester established by the Co-operative Financial Service (CFS) in 2004. The project aimed to resolve the damaged building structure of the tower. In cooperation with the organisation’s ethos and business strategy, it had decided to adopt the solar photovoltaic panels to resolve the problematic issue.
